The Houston Housing Authority has served its seniors through Service Coordinator Grants which link elderly and disabled residents to community support services. Services include free and reduced-cost medications, food stamp referrals, meal donations, Medicaid application assistance along with rent and utility assistance. Literacy book clubs have also been established at senior developments, as well as organized shopping trips for elderly residents to purchase necessities from local stores. Meals and Wellness Program In an effort to address the nutritional and fitness needs of our senior clientele, a partnership was developed between the YWCA and the Housing Authority. Residents at Lyerly, Bellerive and Telephone Road senior communities are offered lunch Monday through Friday. Exercise and other wellness activities are provided from seniors at these communities as part of the program.
